Academy Sports + Outdoors to Open in Birmingham, AL
According to recent signage at River Ridge Shopping Center on Highway 280, a new Academy Sports + Outdoors location is coming soon. Located in the former home of Best Buy, the store is now under construction.
In 2019, Academy closed its 280 location in Lee Branch. The closure caused major disappointment for many area residents, who shopped there for everything from school clothes and shoes to sports gear and equipment.
On Sunday night, local Facebook group Friends of Hwy 280 posted photos of the upcoming Academy location near Target.
rior to construction on Academy, the strip was becoming barren due to the recent closures of Best Buy, Nordstrom Rack and Staples.
However, according to Bham Now, popular retailer Marshalls will also be joining the shopping center later this summer.
